Olle Högbom, age 18, Sundsvall, Sweden disappeared on Sep 7, 1983

The tragic reality is that our son Olle has disappeared.
Most likely, an atrocious deed, an act of violence lies behind his disappearance. (According to Police officer Tore Pettersson, Härnösand, Sweden).
The unlikely but still quite possible truth is that a couple of policemen in Sundsvall have given Olle a beating.

Below I am listing the facts from the police research (with registration numbers) as well as the results from our own research. For some of the facts there is no material or data, such as objects or testimonies. In those cases I have stated what happened on the basis of known circumstances, e.g. Olle’s physical condition, his temperament and values.

1. Olle was last seen at the railroad crossing on the Floragatan street at around 10 PM on Sep 7, 1983. He was believed to have been waiting for his friend Axell to show up and meanwhile he was chatting with his diver friend.

2. A bit further down on Floragatan, in the old Girls school, there is an alarm going off due to a burglary. Two people have been seen creeping into the building through a broken window. One of the supposedly two burglars was caught and taken to the police quarters not too far away.  Reg. no H 45:3

3. An unknown number of policemen are searching the area round Floragatan, patrolling alone, or in cars for the person who supposedly had left the school when the alarm went off.
Reg. no H 45:2

4. Olle notices the commotion further down the street and decides to walk down the Floragatan to find out what’s going on.

5. He walks one block, to the pedestrian crossing at the High school gym, north entrance.

6. There two policemen notice him and believe that he is one of the burglars.

7. The police car jams on the brakes; the traces on the tarmac are noticed and photographed. Reg. no H 43:5.

8. Two policemen rush out of the car and jumps very closely and threateningly towards the tall boy and bombards him with questions.

9. Olle gets scared and his speech is blocked. Olle had a speech impediment, he stuttered.

10. The policemen are highly irritated when not getting an answer to their questions and hit Olle hard with a truncheon.

11. A woman living on the second floor in the so called Gym house wakes up of the noise and loud voices from the street under her bedroom window. She reports having heard thuds against metal and that she had heard someone scream ouch, ouch! Reg. no H 47.

12. Olle is pulled on the tarmac in front of the entrance of the building. Here he was exposed to tough physical violence. He loses his glasses of a model for orienteering and his bicycle key. D H 43:5

13. I, his father Ruben, have been able to follow Olle up to the tarmac strip in front of the Gym. After that there are no traces. From there he was taken by someone somewhere in a car.

The rest is silence. There is a sizable report in existence – ten kilos of paper documents containing nonsense.

The obvious intention is not to take notice of any of the reports from Floragatan, where Olle evidently spent his last minutes.

Dear Svensson Swede, I know you are saying: These things do not happen here! Policemen are kind and helpful creatures.

A person with a criminal record, who was sent out to work with me during my time in forestry told me:
“Yes, I have been fighting with policemen. I know that I have injured someone. I got angry when they grabbed me and I had done absolutely nothing. But now I do not fight back with the police anymore. I just lie down and let them take me. They are so many. And when they start shaking they become dangerous! Then they beat you recklessly.”

Another friend said: “I have worked as a fire fighter and as an ambulance driver I have taken care of young people who have been drinking and who have been subject to the abuse of the police. And I have often wondered what happened to your son. I know the policemen who were out that night. They were no sweethearts!”

That’s all for today. Goodbye you all faithful readers!

Ruben
